English For Economic Opportunities
The need for better education is critical to address issues like school dropouts, unequal access, and the quality of education. Improved access to education is also essential, especially in rural and marginalized areas. Quality education needs to encompass not just academic learning but life skills, critical thinking, and vocational training to prepare students for real-world challenges. The digital divide further highlights the need for better infrastructure and resources to ensure all students can benefit from modern learning tools. To address these issues GVST undertakes various programs like education aid to students, career guidance and English education for better communication skills.
Education is not just about books—it's about learning to think, question, and grow. It helps people understand the world around them, build confidence, and make better choices. With education, individuals gain the power to shape their future, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to society.
A recent NITI Aayog report highlights that many states are losing talented individuals due to a lack of job skills among young graduates, particularly their inability to communicate effectively in English.
Singapore's late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew emphasized that English was crucial for Singapore’s economic integration and global trade. He highlighted that India's linguistic diversity posed challenges to national communication and suggested that wider adoption of English could help bridge regional divides and enhance economic growth.
Recognising this gap, the team has developed a customised initiative "English for Economic Opportunities" across Tamil Nadu.
GV actively contributed to educational development by providing education aid to underprivileged school children, aiming to reduce school dropouts and ensure continuous learning opportunities. The organization also implemented career guidance programs to help students make informed career choices by aligning their interests and skills with suitable opportunities. In 2023, "Kanyakumari Speaks English"—an exclusive initiative by GV—created significant learning opportunities across schools in Kanyakumari and Chennai. A team of 45 trained teacher volunteers successfully implemented the program in 68 schools, significantly improving students' English proficiency. Enhancing English communication skills equips students with better economic prospects and access to global job markets. Additionally, summer skill development programs were conducted on various platforms, benefiting 7,800 students by providing them with essential skills for personal and professional growth.
